🌟 What is Rainbow Storytime?

Join Lindz and Teddy, the hosts of Queer Kid Stuff, in our weekly virtual gathering via Zoom. Together, we'll embark on a journey of music, community, and literary exploration, all with a colorful LGBTQ+ twist. Get ready to sing, learn, and connect with likeminded families who share your passion for inclusivity and understanding.

📚 Dive into Thoughtfully Curated Stories

Each week, we'll delve into a curated selection of LGBTQ+ picture books. These stories, crafted by LGBTQ+ authors or centered around LGBTQ+ themes, cover a range of important topics. From celebrating different kinds of families to exploring gender identity and pronouns, social justice, LGBTQ+ history, and the lives of inspiring historical figures—our stories are designed to spark meaningful conversations and create lasting memories.

🌈 What You Can Expect:

  • Inclusive Learning: Nurture a queer and gender-inclusive environment for your young ones, fostering empathy and understanding from an early age.

  • Engaging Activities: Enjoy interactive sing-alongs, lively discussions, and engaging activities that bring these powerful stories to life.

  • Building Community: Connect with families who share your values, creating a community that celebrates diversity and embraces every shade of the rainbow.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • This is a great question! Yes, all our Rainbow Storytime sessions are virtual. We do this for two very important reasons.

    1) Our friends are all over the world! We want to connect our community and that means our spaces should be accessible to everyone and only virtual spaces can truly accomplish that. We think this is an exciting way to build LGBTQ+ and ally community across state and national boarders, especially considering the current political climate. Speaking of…

    2) Safety is a concern. While we do everything we can to make our in person events safe for families, we cannot fully control or guarantee a safe environment. But we can when it comes to virtual programming! If someone comes into our space in bad faith, we simply kick them out! It’s much more difficult to do that safely in person.

  • Rainbow Storytime is recommended for ages 0-7!

  • The FALL session will last 8 weeks from September 6th through October 28th. We have multiple class times available to fit your busy schedules. Each class will meet weekly for 8 weeks in half hour increments. We will announce our holiday mini-session and winter session later!

  • Nope! Just an internet connection and a device (desktop, smartphone, tablet, smart tv) you can use to connect to Zoom!

  • Our curated collection of LGBTQ+ picture books (and our thematic song pairings!) covers a wide variety of topics from different families, to gender expression and pronouns, to bullying, to consent, and more! You can watch our Rainbow Storytime video series on our YouTube channel to get an idea of the books we might read!

  • By far one of the best ways to bring important conversations (including gender & sexuality) into your child's life is to talk about existing characters, stories, & images. That means PICTURE BOOKS! Your child needs access to books with queer & trans characters, written by queer & trans authors that depict the full width & breadth of the LGBTQ+ community & beyond. We'll bring you our curated faves every week through Rainbow Storytime!

  • We at Queer Kid Stuff are committed to making sure our programs and content are available to anyone who wants and needs them regardless of their financial situation. That said, free programming isn't necessarily free to make. Our work is valuable, our labor deserves monetary compensation, AND we have to generate revenue in order to make more cool stuff for you! That's why we are creating FREE content alongside our paid classes. Those include:

    • FREE Rainbow Storytime sessions every Wednesday at 2:30pm ET with the King County Library System

    • Monthly Rainbow Storytime Livestreams every last Saturday on YouTube & TikTok

    • Weekly Storytime videos on our YouTube channel

LINDZ AMER

CREATOR & FOUNDER | THEY/THEM

Lindz is the mastermind behind Queer Kid Stuff! They identify as queer and trans non-binary and use they/them pronouns. They started Queer Kid Stuff because they wish they had something like it when they were a kid. In addition to everything they do with QKS, they are also an author, a writer and consultant in mainstream children’s media, and a children’s performer! When they’re not making queer stuff for kids, they love to cook, play ukulele, sing, and cuddle their puppies and their wonderful wife!
