Curriculum
Workshop #1: Gender Identity & Pronouns
In our first live workshop session, we’ll introduce the three key gender concepts in this course (gender identity, expression, and the gender spectrum) and dive deeply into gender identity. Once we have a solid understanding for ourselves, we’ll introduce the topic of pronouns as a foundational way in for kids to understand gender identity!
Workshop #2: Gender Expression & Drag
Our second workshop will continue our gender journey by diving into gender expression! We’ll recap the differences between gender identity and gender expression, talk about all the different ways we can express our gender, and go over the concepts of gender euphoria and dysphoria. We’ll focus on dress up and drag as excellent tools for kids to experiment with their gender expression.
Workshop #3: The Gender Spectrum
Our third workshop will bring everything we’ve learned together in our discussion of the gender spectrum. We’ll use this concept to talk about all the different ways folks might identify and choose to express that identity, building on the concepts we’ve developed throughout the course. We’ll use this as a way in for you to figure out where you are on the gender spectrum so you can come up with your own gender spectrum exercise with the kids in your life!
BONUS Workshop: Addressing Anti-Trans Legislation
In this bonus workshop, Lindz will discuss their early childhood-based strategies for addressing more complex topics with kids such as the ongoing anti-trans legislation targeting young people, particularly in the United States
Q&As
Each workshop will consist of a presentation from Lindz plus a robust Q&A session so you can ask them any burning gender-related questions! If you’re not able to participate live, you’ll also be able to ask questions in a course-dedicated channel on our Discord server!
Homework
After every workshop, Lindz will assign Queer Kid Stuff episodes and Rainbow Storytime read-a-louds from our catalog for you to watch with the young people in your life along with suggestions for conversation starters that we will review at the beginning of each session so you can implement the workshop material you are learning with your families. It’s a QKS course on gender for kids baked into our curriculum for grown ups!

Yes!! This course is designed for everyone! You don’t have to be a parent at all to take this course. It’s perfect for parents (LGBTQ+ folks AND allies), but it’s also great for educators, caregivers and nannies, grandparents, aunts, uncles, ankles, unties, really anyone with young kids in their lives.

That’s totally okay! All the live sessions will be recorded and everyone who registers will have access to them! We will schedule the live January sessions by polling everyone signed up for the course to see which days work best so we can have as many people come live as possible!

Lindz is the mastermind behind Queer Kid Stuff! They identify as queer and trans non-binary and use they/them pronouns. They started Queer Kid Stuff because they wish they had something like it when they were a kid. In addition to everything they do with QKS, they are also an author, a writer and consultant in mainstream children’s media, and a children’s performer! When they’re not making queer stuff for kids, they love to cook, play ukulele, sing, and cuddle their puppies and their wonderful wife!
