HELLO, MY DEAR FRIENDS!
I am beyond delighted to share this small corner of the internet with you.
When I started Queer Kid Stuff in 2016 (has it really been that long?!), I knew I’d stumbled on something special, but I had no idea of the potential it had to bloom and grow into something so much bigger than myself. To date, the work we’ve done together as a community of LGBTQ+ kids, grown-ups, educators, and their allies has reached millions of people all over the world! Spreading a whole lot of queer joy along the way. In a world where LGBTQ+ families and kids are fighting for their rights, it is important, maybe more so now than ever before, to collect our community. That’s why we here at QKS have taken the last year to recalibrate and double down on our values, to work at our highest capacity to bring you all together under this mission of ours to spread queer joy.
I’ve steered this ship for a long time on my own, but that kind of operation is not sustainable. I burnt out quickly and was desperate for a support system to keep me going. I battled trolls and social media juggernauts to get here, but I don’t need to continue moving forward on my own from a place of scarcity. Abundance is in our future and we are working tirelessly to harness that future. I’ve learned that I am only as strong as the people who believe in me and the work we can build together to fill the gaping hole in our current systems. This work is just as relevant as it was when I started five years ago, and at the rate progress is moving, it will only continue to be relevant as long as inequality for LGBTQ+ peoples continues to ravage our global ranks.
All that said, I am so excited to come together with you in this space to reimagine a queer-full, joyful intersectional future for today’s young people. Let’s dream up that future together! Thank you so much for supporting our Queer Kid Community!
